BioInfoSummer 2014

BioInfoSummer is a major annual bioinformatics educational and outreach event in Australia, bringing together in excess of 150 biologists, statisticians and bioinformatics professionals. It provides an ideal opportunity for mathematics students to acquire skills in bioinformatics to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities.

Bioinformatics is an exciting, fast‑moving area analysing and simulating the structures and processes of biological systems. BioInfoSummer introduces students, researchers and others working in related areas to the discipline. Biotechnology, drug development, medicine, cancer research, agriculture and plant science are just a few of the many areas in which bioinformatics is having a massive impact.

The BioInfoSummer series introduces bioinformatics and mathematical and computational biology to advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and professionals working in the fields of mathematics, statistics, computer science, information technology, complex systems analysis, and biological, chemical and medical sciences and engineering.

The 2014 program features:
Introduction to molecular biosciences and bioinformatics
Next-generation DNA sequencing and sequence evolution
High-throughput technology and omics data analysis
Methods in bioinformatics
Systems biology

This event brings together biologists, statisticians and bioinformatics professionals, providing opportunity for collaboration and discussion; delegates will also hear from prominent national and international researchers. The program covers state-of the-art technologies used in medical and biological research and also teaches fundamentals in data analysis.
