Employment opportunity: Postdoctoral Research Officer

Hudson Institute of Medical Research is a not-for-profit, independent medical research institute located at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton, Victoria, Australia. The Institute employs almost 300 research staff, 30 administration/support staff and hosts over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Research Officer will initiate and conduct research in the areas of post transcriptional and epigenetic regulation in colon cancer and intestinal development. The position will use state-of the art technologies (genetically engineered murine models, CRISPR/RNAi, proteomic approaches) to identify and characterize novel oncogenes in colon cancer and dissect their therapeutic relevance.

The position will work with support, guidance and mentorship from senior research staff including Dr Ron Firestein with an increasing degree of autonomy as the researcher gains greater skills and experience.

Demonstrated abilities:

  • Proven to work independently and have publications in peer reviewed journals 
  • Technical skills in molecular biology, murine genetics, tissue cell culture, and gene expression analysis 
  • Bioinformatics experience analyzing genomic and NGS (e.g. ChIP-seq or RNAseq) data sets are desired.

If you are have a Phd or M.D/PhD training in cancer bology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or a related discipline with excellent communication skills, are extremely organised with innovative problem solving skills then we welcome your application.

Opportunity to employ undergraduate students

Expressions of interest in supervising students in the next round of intake into the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) are now being invited.

Closing date for expressions of interest is 18 August.
  • Students work full time for some or all of vacation periods and then 8 hours a week during semester. Actual start dates are arranged by the supervisor and student.
  • The project can be experimental and based in a laboratory, clinical, computational or mathematical/statistical.
  • Biomedical Research Victoria, through the UROP team, co-ordinate the call for applications from students and conduct the initial screening interviews. Suitable candidates will then be introduced to individual supervisors.
  • Students are employed by your institution as casual staff at a rate equivalent to HEW2 (~$30/ hr). Students must work full-time during some or all of the vacation periods & 8 hours a week during semester. The BioMedVic is not able to provide funds to pay UROP students.

Employment Opportunity: Casual Research Assistant with ADAMEV project

The ADAMEV (Asthma and Diabetes in Australia and Malaysia in Ethnically Varied populations) project is an exciting new project being conducted by an interdisciplinary team at Monash University.
