​2015 Victorian Cancer Agency funding round now open

​The Victorian Cancer Agency (VCA) has announce​d​ ​that ​the following workforce funding schemes, to be offered as part of the 2015 Victorian Cancer Agency ​Funding Round, ​​are now open and will close at 2pm on 6 October 2015.
  • Early Career Seed Grants
  • Clinical Research Fellowships
  • Mid-Career Research Fellowships

FMNHS researchers succeed in this year's Victorian Cancer Agency funding round

The Victorian Cancer Agency has announced it's 2014 - 2015 funding recipients, with four FMNHS researchers receiving grants.

Dr Hieu Nim from the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute, Dr Arun Azad from Monash Health and School of Clinical Sciences, Dr Carmel Pezaro from Eastern Health Clinical School and Dr Kelly Walton from MIMR-PHI Institute of Medical Research were all awarded grants in this year's funding round.

Department of Defense (DoD) Military Burn Research Program Funding Opportunity

The FY15 Defense Appropriations Act provides $8 million (M) to the Department of Defense Military Burn Research Program (MBRP) to support high-impact burn injuries research. Applications to the Fiscal Year 2015 (FY15) Military Burn Research Program (MBRP) are being solicited by the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA). The executing agent for the anticipated Program Announcements/Funding Opportunities is the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). FY15 MBRP Program Announcement and General Application Instructions forthe following award mechanism are posted on the Grants.gov website.

Topic Areas:  The MBRP encourages applications that specifically address the critical needs of the burn research community in one of the FY15 Topic Areas. The MBRP will solicit research applications for the following FY15 Topics Areas:

1. Fluid Resuscitation Studies (Human)
a) Through multicenter prospective observational studies (retrospective or prospective), demonstrate the impact of various fluid resuscitation rates and techniques, as well as various adjunctivetherapies (high dose/low-dose vitamin C, albumin timing, etc.) on clinically relevant outcomes during acute burn resuscitation.

2. Organ Failure Studies (Human)
a) Through clinical studies, provide insight into the epidemiology, prevention, early detection, and/or treatment of single or multiple organ failure in the burn/trauma patient.
b) Provide a systematic approach to define sepsis in burns and the impact of sepsis-related outcomes through the identification and establishment of best practice while evaluating longitudinal adherence to established standards.

PhD funding opportunity with the Transport Accident Commission

The Institute for Safety, Compensation and Recovery Research (ISCRR) has announced a funding opportunity to work with their partner, the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).

The TAC has entered a partnership with the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre (CMCRC) to fund a PhD scholar. The partnership provides funding of up to $60,000 per annum, including $50,000 per annum directly supports a tax-free scholarship for a PhD candidate, with the remainder being available to the researcher or supervisor for research-related expenses.

Future scientific leaders research program

Wednesday 25th February, Monash University, Clayton

EMBL Australia’s flagship program is its research program, which follows the EMBL model in providing talented young scientists with up to nine years of secure and generous funding.

An international recruitment program to select and appoint two Group Leaders to this prestigious initiative is currently underway. Interviews will take place at ARMI over a three day period from Wednesday 25th February.

The short-listed applicants will be presenting their research and research interests on Wednesday 25th February, in G19, Ground Floor, STRIP 1, 15 Innovation Walk.

The Shionogi pharmaceutical company in Japan is very keen to receive expressions of interest from Australian researchers for the ​​Shionogi Science Program 2014 which provides between AUD50,000 to AUD150,000 per year for up to 5 years.
