The scholarship is being offered as part of the research activities of the STAtins in reducing events in the elderly trial (STAREE), with an anticipated start date in January/February 2016.
The scholarship provides an opportunity to undertake a PhD project that will comprise a component of the NHMRC funded STAREE project. STAREE is a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled primary prevention trial designed to assess whether daily active treatment of 40 mg atorvastatin will prolong good health and maintain independence amongst men and women over 70 years of age who are free from cardiovascular disease, diabetes or dementia.
The activities of the STAREE team include a broad range of tasks related to community-based clinical trials such as recruitment of general practitioners (GPs) and patients, monitoring, data management, and ethics (www.staree.org.au).
The program of study will be determined in consultation with the successful applicant.
Candidate Requirements
AUD $25,849 per annum for living expenses, tax exempt for three years and exempt from tuition fees. An additional $1,200 (total) is available from the School for conference attendance. The successful applicant will be encouraged to apply for an APA, NHMRC, Monash, or other scholarship.
