New short course: Monash Certicate in Environmental Medicine

Monash Certicate in Environmental Medicine

Date: 22-26 February, 2016

The Monash Certificate in Environmental Medicine is a week long short course designed for AFOEM & AFPHM Fellows and Trainees, GPs and other medical professionals with a clinical role.

At the completion of this short course participants should be able to:
  • describe well-recognised environmental influences on health in terms that take account of the nature and extent of exposure;
  • take a history to reveal environmental influences on a patient’s health;
  • access sources of information linking health and environment and make some estimation of the reliability of such sources;
  • strive to serve a patient’s general health interests when acting to investigate (or to refrain from investigating) alleged environmental causes of his or her illness;
  • describe the processes of environmental risk assessment and environmental risk management;
  • advise a patient, site manager and speak in a public forum in a way that acknowledges uncertainties and that explicitly distinguishes what is likely from what is just possible;
  • employ effective principles of conflict management in interactions with stakeholders on environmental issues.
