Many Aboriginal men endure mental health problems. Only a few seek or get help. The Koori Men’s Health Day was developed to overcome a range of barriers to help-seeking. It’s a community-based, culturally accepted primary health service model that identifies physical and mental illness among Aboriginal men - early.
Dr Anton Isaacs, a public health physician with the Monash School of Rural Health, will be joined by Aboriginal Elders, Laurie Marks, Cliff Wandin and Rex Solomon, as well as senior mental health nurse, Berwyn Lampitt.
For Men’s Health Week 2015, the School of Rural Health is running a webinar to showcase how the Koori Men’s Health Day program was developed and trialled, and how it can be replicated in other Aboriginal communities.
